Premise

The Riverview Psychiatric Center, in collaboration with the community, is a center for best practice, treatment, education and research, for individuals with serious, persistent mental illness, and co-occurring substance use disorders.

Riverview Psychiatric Center is located in Augusta, Maine. It is a hospital for patients over the age of eighteen. It is a permanent home to some patients. For other patients, it is their own prison. The Center is capable of treating many different types of disorders. From anorexia nervosa to schizophrenia. Each patient is assigned their own doctor who specializes in the right kind of treatment and therapy needed. Few of the doctors lack the patience needed to help the patients at Riverview, but they do their best.

While the surrounding communities view the Center as helpful, the patients know what really happens there. The main building is new, rebuilt in the 1980s, the other buildings are older, with plenty of forgotten tunnels and a basement that was once used for storage. The patients who are able to wander, have traveled to these forgotten parts and some take full advantage of the privacy found there. Though the doctors can't be bothered, most of the nurses and security know about the secrets hiding beneath the buildings.

There are some staff members of Riverview, who cater to the needs of the patients, in exchange for favors. Money. Sex. Drugs. The Center isn't as clean cut as it appears.

Patients

Generally, no substance misuse, no running away, be courteous, just respect people. No self harming, no stealing, clean up behind yourself.
Meds will be at set times and so will meals. They may have a lights out policy or they may allow you to choose. You need to comply with treatment offered or you may be asked to leave. If your a compulsory patient you may be forced to comply if they have to.
Visitors can visit but at the discretion of the staff, your personal belongings are your responsibility unless they are banked with the staff.
You must treat others as you expect to be treated yourself, including the staff.

-There will be no cell phones or laptops allowed for any patient.
There are pay phones available and each patient will have a list of five numbers they're allowed to call. Phone calls are allowed between the hours of 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m..
Computers are available in the computer lab. You must have permission to use the computers and are only allowed to use the e-mail address provided to you (patientname@riverview.com). The lab is closed between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.. No patient is allowed in the lab when it is closed.

-Upon arriving to Riverview, all of your belongings were searched. Anything we deemed a hazard was put away in to a secure container and will be returned to you upon your departure.
We will administer searches on random. Anything found on your person or in your room that is not allowed, will be disposed of.

-No males are allowed in a female room. No females are allowed in a male room.

-The recreation room is a privilege. You must participate in group and your single sessions.

-We work on a color system. Each level of achievement is labeled with a color. You go to the next level by involving yourself and trying to help yourself. Each level is allowed different privileges.
The levels are as follows...
Color System/Levels
Yellow

48 hour watch - A patient is in the yellow when they first arrive and are not allowed to leave their rooms. All meals will be eaten in room, monitored by a nurse and/or security.
Orange

Transition - The patient is allowed to eat meals with the other patients and is allowed two phone calls a day.
Green

Participant - Patient is allowed to attend field trips, use the recreation room and common room
Blue

Higher privledges - Day field trips are allowed, supervised. Phone calls are unsupervised.
Purple

Preparing to leave - Not many patients make it to Purple. When they do, they begin to prepare themselves for life outside of Riverview's walls.
Red

Suicide Watch - Patients who are a harm to themselves or even to others. They lose all privledges. They will spend 72 hours in the "quiet room". Meals will be monitored. No visitors or phone calls.
